Del Mar City Beach

South end is next to Powerhouse Park, which has a large grassy area, children’s playground, and restrooms, with dining at two restaurants on the beach and in nearby Del Mar Village. Further north, the beach is lined with expensive homes. Restrooms and Life guard stations located at intervals, with access to streets. North end is Dog Beach. No restrooms.

South of Del Mar, this beach has parking lots and restrooms at the north and south ends. Closest dining is along Carmal Valley Road and in Del Mar.

La Jolla Shores

Located next to Kellogg Park, which has a chldren’s playground, restrooms and a large grassy area with picnic tables. Permanent life guard tower. The surf is typically more gentle than at other beaches along the coast. Dining on nearby streets.

La Jolla Cove

A small, secluded sandy beach, the cove is a popular spot for swimmers, snorklers and scuba divers. Currents can get strong. Next to the beach is Ellen Browning Scripps Park, a large grassy area with picnic tables, a scenic walkway, and restrooms. Dining in nearby La Jolla Village.
 

  • La Jolla Cove is, hands down, the best place for snorkeling in San Diego. Book a guided tour or rent gear on your own. A good point of entry to the cove is next to the restrooms at Scripps Park.
  • Guided kayak tours are offered from around La Jolla Shores for an up-close and personal experience with marine life and a view of the caves and rugged coastline.
  • Scripps Park, just above La Jolla Cove, is a great place for romping and picnicking while enjoying magnificent views of the Pacific.
  • The Children's Pool is a great place to walk out on the sea wall to observe the seals and sea lions up close
